Cold Brew Ratio Calculator

To use cold brew ratio calculator enter your coffee grounds weight in grams and select desired brew strength e.g enter 100 grams of coffee and select “Regular (1:16)” for a standard cold brew concentration.

The calculator shows required water amount and expected yield values in milliliters, liters, and fluid ounces, plus expected final yield after coffee absorption.

Brew Strengths: Light: 1:12 ratio (stronger concentrate), Medium: 1:14 ratio, Regular: 1:16 ratio (standard strength), Diluted: 1:18 ratio (weaker brew)

Cold Brew Ratio Formula

Water (ml) = Coffee (g) × Ratio
Expected Yield = Water × 0.8

Parameters:

  • Coffee: Weight of coffee grounds in grams
  • Ratio: Water-to-coffee ratio (12-18)
  • 0.8: Yield factor (accounting for 20% liquid absorption by grounds)

How to Calculate Cold Brew Ratio?

To calculate your cold brew ratio, multiply your coffee weight by desired ratio number. For 80g of coffee at a 1:16 ratio, you need 1280ml of water (80 × 16 = 1280). The expected yield will be approximately 1024ml (1280 × 0.8) after brewing.

When making a strong cold brew concentrate, use 100g of coffee at a 1:12 ratio. This requires 1200ml of water (100 × 12), yielding approximately 960ml (1200 × 0.8) of cold brew concentrate.

For a regular strength cold brew, start with 150g of coffee at a 1:16 ratio. Add 2400ml of water (150 × 16) to achieve an expected yield of 1920ml (2400 × 0.8) of ready-to-drink cold brew.

In preparing a medium-strength cold brew, combine 75g of coffee with water at a 1:14 ratio. This needs 1050ml of water (75 × 14), producing approximately 840ml (1050 × 0.8) of finished cold brew.

What is Cold Brew Ratio?

Cold Brew Ratio refers to the proportion of coffee grounds to water used in cold brew coffee preparation. It’s typically expressed as 1:x, where 1 represents one part coffee and x represents parts water. For example, a 1:16 ratio means using one part coffee to sixteen parts water.

The ratio determines the brew’s strength and concentration: Lower ratios (1:12) produce stronger concentrates suitable for diluting, Medium ratios (1:14-1:16) create ready-to-drink cold brew, and Higher ratios (1:18) yield lighter brews.
